In the first season finale of ‘1883,’ the caravan’s journey comes to an end. The thrilling season comes to a conclusion as the Duttons arrive at their final destination. However, the price they pay for the location in which they eventually settle will mold the family’s beliefs for decades to come. Meanwhile, the other wagon camp members must make vital decisions that will bring them to their respective destinations. ‘This Is Not Your Heaven,’ the eleventh episode of ‘1883,’ is titled. The story begins with the caravan’s arrival at Fort Caspar. Elsa passes out and is brought to the camp’s doctor. An army man operating as a medical aid at the camp, on the other hand, explains that he is unable to cure Elsa. Furthermore, because the virus is spreading, she is unable to travel to a new camp. Elsa’s time is running out, and even if she receives therapy, her chances of recovery are slim. Shea discovers that the Major and other townspeople are linked to the Wyoming Stock Association, whom members Shea and the others murdered for horse stealing.

As a result, James chooses to find a last resting place for his daughter while she is still alive so that his family can call it home. After the immigrants refuse to follow Shea and James because they do not wish to live in Montana, the rest of the caravan disbands. The immigrants, with the exception of Risa and Josef, break ways with the caravan. Shea relieves Wade and Colton of their responsibilities, and the two ride out into the sunset. James, Shea, Thomas, Margaret, John, Elsa, Noemi, Josef, and Risa continue on their journey to Montana. On their way, they come upon a tribe of Native Americans led by Spotted Eagle.

While Spotted Eagle speaks with James, the Native Americans assist Elsa in easing the agony of her wounds. He sends James to the Paradise Valley, saying that he would be able to locate land to bury his daughter there. However, the location is remote, and it will take a week to travel there by wagon. As a result, James decides to journey with Elsa on horseback to find her a suitable resting location on the land. James departs with Elsa after an emotional farewell to Margaret. The father and daughter have one more heart-to-heart before fate intervenes and the unavoidable occurs.

Is Elsa Dead in the 1883 Finale? Where Do the Duttons Make Their Home?

In the episode’s concluding moments, James and Elsa spend time beside a tree. James tells his daughter about his first memories of life. Elsa also recalls her first recollection before falling asleep. Elsa ultimately accepts her fate and dies in James’ arms when she awakens. Elsa’s death lays the groundwork for the Yellowstone Ranch, which would eventually become the Duttons’ empire. Furthermore, it reinforces the Duttons’ decision to live in Paradise Valley and make it their new home. However, for the time being, James mourns the loss of his daughter. In the end, Elsa uses voice-over to tell the conclusion of her adventure. She reveals that when she dies, her memories and dreams combine to produce heaven for her.

Sam is shown waiting for Elsa in the final scene. When Elsa arrives, the two have another race that takes them back to their initial meeting. The moment implies that Elsa has found peace in the afterlife. Instead of riding into the sunset, as is customary in cowboy romances, Elsa and her love ride into broad daylight. Elsa says in the closing moment that death is likewise lovely, demonstrating that even death cannot break Elsa’s unbreakable spirit for loving the beauty of her surroundings. As a result, Elsa’s journey comes full circle, and the season concludes on a high note.

What will become of Shea and Thomas? What Happens to Undocumented Immigrants?

In the first episode of the series, Shea and Thomas set out to guide the immigrants to Oregon. Over the course of the season, Shea’s terrible history and Thomas’ search for a sense of belonging define their character journeys. The tough cowboys handle all the hazards of the trip, but as the immigrants part ways, the two are left to forge their own path. He loses a leg as a result of the snakebite, emphasizing the sacrifices made by the Pioneers to reach the Virgin Frontier.
