The Afterparty Episode 7 Recap and Ending Explained

The seventh episode of ‘The Afterparty,’ titled ‘Danner,’ is all about Tiffany Haddish’s wacky eponymous detective character. The chapter begins with the tenacious investigator in a bind, having just been informed by her partner that she is no longer working on Xavier’s murder case. Danner, of course, isn’t about to give up so easily, and she deflects the issue by diving into her own narrative.

There are some intriguing revelations regarding the detective’s history, as well as some intriguing developments in the present. Fans of the clumsy Aniq should ready themselves for the possibility of their hero going to prison. However, the season is far from finished, so let’s take a closer look at ‘The Afterparty’ episode 7 as we prepare for the season finale. WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD.

Recap of Episode 7 of The Afterparty

The episode begins with Detective Danner attempting to soothe Detective Culp, who remains distrustful of his superior. Danner pretends to know the man designated to replace her when questioned why she is defying her superior’s orders and attempting to solve the case herself. Before Culp can intervene, she begins telling a narrative about her early days as a cop and how she met Aldrin Germain (the detective supposed to be replacing her).

Through prolonged flashbacks, we are transported back to Danner’s days at the police school. Her claims are proven correct when her classmate turns out to be the same Aldrin who is supposed to replace her in Xavier’s murder case. As the flashback progresses, we watch Danner suffer as a beat cop while Aldrin advances fast to become a detective.

The show maintains loyal to its “story within a tale” idea, following Danner, a young beat cop, as she seeks to solve a murder case being investigated by Aldrin. Things appear to be going smoothly at first, and Danner even apprehends a suspect. However, even when the suspect is found to be innocent, Aldrin continues to try to prosecute them. Danner, realizing he only cares about himself, turns in contradictory evidence, allowing the culprit to walk free. Of course, Danner becomes a pariah in her precinct as a result of this.

Ending of The Afterparty Episode 7: Has Detective Danner Solved the Case? What exactly are the Loose Ends?

Back in the present, the investigator wraps up her tale, implying that it is sometimes necessary to give suspects the benefit of the doubt. Culp is still skeptical and admits that Aniq has been listening in on their chat the entire time. Danner glances around, annoyed, and notices the open entrance to the recording studio. She declares, seemingly inspired, that she has solved the case, even while Culp watches on, perplexed. The episode ends with a short glimpse of Zoe yelling at Brett in frustration while covering her little daughter’s ears.

So, has Danner genuinely solved the case, or is this just another ruse to purchase more time and divert attention away from Culp? Though we are not yet aware of the apparent connection Danner has established, it appears that the detective may have solved the case. A handful of signs indicate that she isn’t bluffing, most notably the fact that she notices the studio door and appears to make a connection between the door and Xavier’s death. At the same time, a brief scene depicts a panicked Aniq (who believes he is about to be imprisoned) telling Zoe that he doesn’t understand how someone could have killed Xavier while he (Aniq) was so close to the late celebrity’s bedroom.

Thus, there appears to be a link between Aniq’s earlier hiding in the studio and the show’s core murder mystery. This is the link that Danner appears to have broken, potentially leading her to the murderer. Danner also discovers that she hasn’t interviewed one individual at the party, implying that, for the first time so far, she isn’t just picking suspects at random but has an idea about how the crime was committed.

Of course, there are still loose ends, such as the wig discovered next to Xavier’s body under his balcony and the fact that Jennifer 2 is still missing. The investigator, on the other hand, doesn’t seem to care about the minor details and is last seen preparing to rip the primary mystery wide open.

Who is it that Detective Danner hasn’t interviewed yet?

Of course, there are many individuals at the party who the investigator does not interrogate at first, instead focusing on Xavier’s closest childhood associates and pals. Jennifer 1, the most renowned guest who has yet to be interviewed, may have gotten the benefit of the doubt due to her late pregnancy. Danner, on the other hand, might wind up interviewing Jennifer 1 in the next episode.

Given Danner’s assurance that he has solved the case, Jennifer 1 may be in for a rough ride. It’s worth noting that Danner hasn’t interviewed Zoe and Brett’s small kid. But the young girl couldn’t possibly be involved in the murder, could she?

Is Zoe’s Daughter Involved in Xavier’s Death?

The final scene of episode 7 raises a slew of doubts about the actual person who may have played a role in Xavier’s death. Though nothing incriminating regarding Zoe’s daughter has been disclosed thus far, it appears that the small girl may have accidently caused the celebrity to tumble from his balcony.

The appearance of Zoe’s kid immediately after Danner declares that she has overlooked a suspect seems to strongly imply that the unsuspecting young girl may have knowledge of the crime. It’s only that no one has thought to question the child who may possess the answers everyone seeks.
