Later that evening, Miles and Bronwyn decide to inform Sebastian of Sylvia’s death. They explain that Sylvia has passed on to a better place, and that there will be a funeral when her loved ones will bid her farewell. Miles and Bronwyn debate whether or not to bring Sebastian to Sylvia’s funeral. They decide that taking the youngster to Sylvia’s funeral will be a good learning experience for him. They arrive in Sylvia’s village, which is made up of immigrants from Trinidad and Tobago.

During Sylvia’s funeral, the Warners learn more about her life as a dancer, her commitment to her work as a caretaker, and her family. Through a performance, a troupe of dancers pays tribute to Sylvia. However, Sylvia’s daughter interrupts the performance, blaming her mother for not being present for her during her childhood since she was too busy caring for other children. Sebastian becomes afraid as tempers and voices escalate in the church, and his parents decide to take him home.

Atlanta Season 3 Episode 7: What’s in the Envelope?

After Sylvia’s funeral, the Warners return home. Miles and Bronwyn discuss Sylvia’s influence on their son after putting Sebastian to bed. Bronwyn is concerned that taking Sebastian to Sylvia’s funeral was the wrong option. She is concerned that as Sebastian grows older, he may blame his parents for not being present during his youth. Someone knocks on the family’s door in the final minutes. When Miles opens the door, he discovers another parcel addressed to Sylvia on the porch. When Miles opens the packet, he discovers photos of Sylvia and Sebastian from the school’s family day. The episode concludes with Syliva weakly singing a lullaby to Sebastian. The ending represents the state of parenting in the American upper class, where parents rely on outside aid to care for their children.

Several sequences in the episode illustrate Sebastain’s attachment to Sylvia. In the first scene, Sebastian refuses to eat his breakfast without Sylvia’s special sauce. Sylvia’s effect on the boy is palpable, from his school preparation to his nighttime ritual. Finally, Bronwyn admits that Sebastian want to be like Uncle Samuel. The individual is most likely someone about whom Sylvia told Sebastian stories.

Sebastian, on the other hand, seems slightly distanced from his parents and does not demonstrate much attachment to them. As a result, the show is clearly a social critique on modern parenting. Finally, Sylvia’s lullaby can be heard, indicating that the experiences Sebastian has had with her will stay with him and form the young boy as a person. Finally, Sylvia’s influence on Sebastian’s life is apparent, and the finale leaves viewers wondering whether Sebastian’s parents will ever be able to fill a similar role in his life.
