In the third and fourth episodes of ‘Outer Range,’ the mystery-filled scary narrative is mixed with hard-hitting family drama. In episode 3, titled ‘The Time,’ the police draw closer to linking the Abbotts to Trevor Tillerson’s death. However, things grow more complicated when Trevor’s body is discovered on the Abbotts’ land.

In the fourth episode, titled ‘The Loss,’ the Tillersons deal with Trevor’s death, while Wayne gets closer to understanding the secrets of the Abbott family’s land. Finally, viewers get a glimpse of the dangers that the Abbotts are destined to confront as a result of the black void’s presence on their farm. Recap of Episodes 3 and 4 of Outer Range

The third episode, titled ‘The Time,’ begins with Royal (Josh Brolin) reminiscing about his time in the black vacuum. Wayne, on the other hand, is indifferent with Trevor’s disappearance and orders his sons, Billy and Luke, to step up their efforts to reclaim the Abbott family’s West Pasture. Autumn, on the other hand, proceeds to investigate the Abbott Ranch and discovers a curious stone hidden in the dirt.

While out on a date with Maria, Rhett feels the burden of keeping the truth about Trevor’s death hidden. A incident at the pub, however, lands Rhett in police custody, where Deputy Sheriff Joy interrogates him. Rhett is informed that his blood was discovered on Trevor’s belt buckle. Rhett admits to a brief altercation with Trevor but claims to know nothing about his location. Meanwhile, Royal infiltrates Joy’s workplace and steals the belt buckle. He then tosses it into the abyss. Amy discovers Trevor’s body on a mountain behind the Abbotts’ property towards the end of the episode. Royal notifies Joy, which changes the course of her research.

The fourth episode, titled ‘The Loss,’ begins with a flashback set nine months before the events of the drama begin. Wayne comes across a stone that is identical to the one Autumn discovered in the previous episode. Wayne indicates that the stone is connected to the black nothingness he glimpsed briefly as a child. Wayne becomes determined to acquire the land after learning that the stone was discovered on the Abbott family’s West Pasture. In the present, the Abbotts are dealing with Joy’s interrogation following the discovery of Trevor’s body. Later, Joy takes Rhett and Perry to the Sheriff’s Office and interrogates them separately in the hopes of catching them lying. However, for the most part, the brothers keep to their stories.

Joy is even more perplexed by Trevor’s murder after learning from the autopsy report that he died only hours before his body was discovered. Trevor had been absent for about a week following his battle with Rhett, so she assumes the younger Abbott sibling had nothing to do with his death. Patricia, the Tillerson siblings’ mother, arrives in town and plans a funeral for Trevor, which the Abbotts also attend. Autumn and Royal play poker after the burial. Autumn is asked to gamble the stone she found while Royal bets his West Pasture. Royal cheats to win, and he takes possession of the mystery stone. Finally, Wayne’s stone’s unusual behavior brings him to the black vacuum in the middle of the night.

Outer Range Episodes 3 and 4: Does Wayne Discover the Black Void? Is Royal no longer alive?

After snatching the stone from Autumn, Royal returns home. Later that night, a sleep-deprived Royal departs from the residence with the stone. Meanwhile, Wayne notices a movement in his own rock. Wayne leaves the house, excited at the prospect of discovering the true nature of the stone, and drives across the grasslands, guided by the stone. Finally, Wayne arrives at the location of the Black Void. To his amazement, Royal is silently waiting for Wayne beside the nothingness. Wayne’s delight at discovering the black nothingness is short-lived, as Royal pounces on him and appears to want to hurt him. As a result, it seems clear that Royal leveraged the stones’ mutual connection with the black abyss to entice Wayne out late at night.

Earlier in the episode, it is revealed that Wayne has paid the city council judge to rule in favor of the Tillersons in the land conflict. As a result, Royal will almost certainly be compelled to give up his Western Pasture. To avoid this, Royal attempts to overwhelm and frighten Wayne. The two men fight near the black void, and Royal knocks Wayne out. While Royal is looking into the black void, pondering his next move, Wayne attacks from behind. Royal collapses to the ground and lies motionless as Wayne drives away, happy with his discoveries. Wayne is now aware of the Abbott family’s secret, as well as the presence of the black hole. As a result, he is unlikely to abandon his quest of the Abbott family’s land.

Royal’s approach, on the other hand, appears to have backfired. Wayne not only flees, but he is also aware of the location of the black abyss and its significance to the Abbotts. As a result, it appears like Royal is in big trouble. Despite the fact that Wayne delivered a physical and symbolic blow to Royal, he is unlikely to be dead. Wayne’s strike isn’t lethal, and Royal has only fainted. As a result, it is safe to conclude that the Abbott family patriarch is still alive.
