‘Mourning Cloak’ opens with Howard requesting Ali to capture the namesake rare butterfly from the Tower’s premise to demonstrate his devotion. Ali comes across Charlie and holds her at gunpoint after capturing it. John recognizes her and informs Howard that she is a member of Morgan’s organization. They take her to the Tower to question her. She admits that she came to the Tower in search of better living conditions, intending to reside there discreetly with the help of Grace or June. She volunteers to conduct a suicide mission in order to persuade Howard that she can be of service to Victor’s sanctuary. Howards wants Ali to follow Charlie in order to determine her true motivation for visiting their neighborhood.

Ali and Charlie set out to locate elevator parts in order to repair the elevators in the Tower. They take a detour when they come across the Stalkers to go to a building. Charlie goes into the structure to look for the missing parts. Meanwhile, the Stalkers approach Ali and compel him to enter the building full with walkers. He manages to elude the Stalkers by leading them to them. He meets Charlie, who is attempting to board an elevator in the building. She tells to him that she came to the Tower to turn off the beacon, allowing Morgan to rescue Grace and Mo.

After hearing Charlie’s true motive, he seals her in the elevator and brings a group of walkers to its entrance. However, after telling him that she would not carry out her plan, she persuades him to rescue her. Ali eventually frees her, but she collapses from radiation exposure.

Yes, Ali is no longer alive. When he learns Charlie is nothing more than a threat to the Tower and Victor, he captures her and resolves to return alone. Charlie, on the other hand, informs him that there is a world out there for them to meet. She informs him that they can live their lives apart from Victor and Morgan. Ali is tempted by Charlie’s desire to be with him. Instead of concentrating upon being a ranger, Victor begins to consider love and intimacy. Her words win his heart, causing him to let her free. He promises Charlie that when he returns to the Tower, he would turn off the beacon for her.

Ali’s escape strategy has been to become a ranger. He desired a reason to live after his father’s death. Charlie convinces him that he deserves better. When Charlie grows concerned about turning off the beacon, he agrees. His love for her gives him the strength to stand up to Victor. To assuage her fears, Ali climbs to the Tower’s terrace to turn off the beacon, only to run across Howard. When Howard realizes he has joined the enemy, he throws him to the ground, killing him before he can turn off the light. The love he longs to share with Charlie for all time turns out to be lethal, taking his life.

When Ali and Charlie return to the Tower, Howard grows skeptical of both of them. He suspects Ali is concealing something from him, which he confirms when he tries to turn off the beacon. Howard rushes to assassinate Charlie after guaranteeing his own demise. In Victor’s absence, he is unable to endure an enemy’s presence in the Tower, prompting him to seek out and destroy the life of the girl. June, on the other hand, comes between Howard and Charlie. She informs him that Charlie is under her care, rendering Howard powerless. A dispute with June is a one-way ticket to disaster for the Tower’s deputy leader.

June is a very important member of Victor’s community. She is helpful as a nurse. When Howard tries to kill Charlie over June’s objections, she warns him that injuring her or Charlie will result in serious consequences. Knowing that June’s assistance is critical to the healthcare of the survivors in his town, Howard makes the decision not to offend her. June uses her service as a weapon to protect Charlie from the deputy leader, who agrees not to harm the youngster. Charlie, who is already dying slowly as a result of her radiation exposure, is now June’s duty, and the latter promises to protect her.
