In Charlie McDowell’s indie home invasion film ‘Windfall,’ nothing goes as planned. Nobody, a thief, has broken into the holiday home of a teach industry mogul in search of the secret hoard. Meanwhile, the CEO and his wife arrive at the chalet for an unplanned break. Nobody is about to flee after stealing the CEO’s pricey Rolex watch.

However, the issue emerges when the Wife discovers Nobody, and he is now unable to let them depart. The haughty CEO reveals his secret stockpile, but nobody notices that he can squeeze more with a little more effort. In essence, Nobody is a principal thief, but Nobody hesitates to stir hell with a gun in his stride. Despite this, he does not appear to be a murderer.

‘Windfall’ implies that no one is a criminal until circumstances force them to be. Despite its low budget, the picture creates an intriguing atmosphere thanks to its dynamic cast ensemble and a tight storyline. Synopsis of the Windfall Plot

Nobody, a burglar, appears to be having a nice time in a vacation home in the middle of an orange orchard. He takes a restroom leak, breaks a glass, and spends time by the pool. He discovers an expensive Rolex watch and a revolver after searching the cupboard and drawers. Meanwhile, the property owner, the pompous CEO, arrives at the site with his wife, expecting to spend some time alone. While nobody is looking for money in the office, the CEO and his wife enter through the front door.

The CEO complains about the lack of flowers, despite the fact that he specifically requested some flowery décor from April, his assistant. The Wife sees Nobody while investigating the house, and the storey takes a turn to the south from there. The CEO tries to make things better by offering to reward Nobody with a secret stockpile stashed in the kitchen. The crime is barely a speck in the millionaire businessman’s vast fortune, and he is delighted to assist the man.

Nobody makes a run with ten to fifteen thousand dollars in cash, a watch, and jewellery in his pocket. Nobody can trust the CEO and his wife, even if they pledge to cooperate. As a result, he locks them in the sauna. Nobody gets to his car, but he discovers a surveillance camera just in time. By the time he comes to the residence, the CEO and his wife have escaped (since Nobody forgot to lock the sauna door). Nobody realises he can extract more money from the millionaire, while the CEO instructs his wife to seduce Nobody. The Gardener’s appearance on the scene pushes the plot even further off the cliff.

Why Does the Wife Kill Nobody at the End of Windfall?

Nobody appears to be the type of person who would not harm a fly. However, life seemed to have surrounded him in such a way that he would be desperate enough to pull off the crime. Nobody works for one of the CEO’s several enterprises, the CEO deduces. Toward the end of the storey, nobody disputes the CEO’s suspicion — he was possibly an employee who was laid go due to financial constraints. Nobody almost pulls off the robbery with enough calm and poise.

Nobody and the CEO agree on a figure, and Nobody chooses half a million dollars as the ransom payment. Debbie, the CEO’s ex-partner (for lack of a better phrase), appears to have run into a similar difficulty. As a result, April, the CEO’s assistant, gathers the funds on such short notice. Meanwhile, as a contingency plan, the CEO instructs the Wife to seduce Nobody. The seduction has no effect other than to deepen the Wife’s resentment for the CEO. Nobody is particularly interested in the Wife’s erased tattoo on her feet.

On the second day, the money arrives late. Nobody tries to depart the scene with the money, as the CEO and Wife stay shackled to their chairs. Nobody knows that the Wife had a rose tattoo on her foot and that she adored it. According to the theory, she had to remove the tattoo due to her controlling husband.

Nobody, on the other hand, gives a damn. He even walks over to the CEO to reveal that his wife was carrying birth control tablets in her purse. Nobody’s interpretation of the circumstances indicates that the Wife has cheated on the CEO. While the presence of birth control pills in her luggage does not inherently imply that the Wife is a cheater, her contempt for her husband is palpable. Maybe she wants to go with Nobody, leaving her husband behind, which would give her independence and possibly a half-million-dollar pay reduction. Nobody wants to preserve everything for himself, but the Wife has obtained a piece of glass from the Gardener’s mishap. She liberates herself, picks up the strange-looking showcase, and slams it on Nobody’s head till he dies. Sure, no one dies, but what about the CEO?

Is the CEO no longer alive? Why does his wife murder him?

After murdering Nobody in cold blood, the Wife returns to the chamber, making her way to the kitchen, where her husband is still bound. The CEO is overjoyed with his Wife’s accomplishment because he did not expect the supposedly sympathetic Wife to pull off a murder. The CEO now expects his wife to untie him so that they can return home cheerfully. However, he is in for a final surprise. The gun is pointed at him by his wife. The Wife shoots three shots into the CEO as he says, “Are you going to shoot me?” We initially believe that Nobody would assassinate the CEO, but an unexpected change of events causes us to drop our jaws.

The CEO has a commanding and manipulative personality. He is initially tranquil, but he plays a significant role in the story’s crescendo. When the CEO is with the wife, she simply has one identity: “Wife.” She may also feel repulsed by Debbie’s absence, since she may have had to deal with comparisons. While requesting his assistant for money, the CEO mentions that they are in a “Debbie” scenario.

Furthermore, she feels like a different person when in the marriage, always submissive to her husband’s whims. The rose tattoo could be a sign of her letting go of the past. Nobody, however, reminds her that she has made a treaty. Throughout the storey, she starts to recognise the gendered picture, and one could conclude that she is tired of women being victims in similar films. As a result, she reclaims control of the plot and emerges as the final murderer.

The CEO dies as a result of the Wife’s self-discovery, and the Wife makes it appear as if Nobody did it. The Wife walks out into the darkness with the money, covering all the leads. She is finally free of men’s grips, whether it’s a nagging husband or a thief with trust difficulties.

However, because darkness has engulfed her vision, we are unsure whether she will be able to flee the police and reach safety. Nobody’s death has gone unreported. As a result, there’s still a potential she’ll be apprehended by the cops, especially with her fingerprints all over the ivory showcase.
