This year's IPL T20 cricket season begins today, and MS Dhoni has handed the captaincy of the Chennai squad to all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.

While Dhoni's decision surprised both his supporters and the IPL community, the new skipper, Ravindra Jadeja, has been eagerly awaited.

The expectations are high for the Chennai team as most of the previous season's players have been retained in the squad that won the championship last season and is poised to repeat as champions. And Dhoni, the captain, will now be a regular wicketkeeper-batsman.

Despite injury and form issues, some IPL teams have been training hard to win the trophy this time around. While some teams are still developing, others are ready to compete.

But, in the T20 series, anything can happen. Still. Chennai has won the IPL four times and the Champions League twice. This includes all series except the IPL 2020 series.

So the expectations on the Chennai team in the IPL series are rising. Captain Dhoni, who has led Chennai in all three series, has used regular players with no big alterations.

Dhoni has also left his imprint on the captaincy by giving guidance, fighting to the end and leading the squad better in difficult situations.

His captaincy has led Chennai to 60% victories. No other captain or team has achieved this in the IPL series.

While the Chennai team's captain may have changed, its principles and mentality have not. Most of the Chennai team's previous players are expected to return this season.

Despite being great and simple again, the Chennai team has increased strength in most areas in their IPL challenge.

Or their list of essential players. A second Sri Lankan spinner, Mahesh Deekshana, and Adam Milne are expected to help.

Deepak Sahar's injury was a setback for Chennai, notwithstanding Milne and Chris Jordan's ignorance. CSK may choose to open with Devon Conway.

The captaincy of Jadeja will be closely scrutinised. His secret weapon, Jadeja, is anticipated to match Dhoni's vision, analysis, and practicality, thorough understanding of the game, capacity to think in his position, and ability to solve problems quickly. This could be the start of something new for Jadeja.
