Twenty One Gms is a Malayalam-language suspense thriller film written and directed by Bibin Krishna in his debut. The film stars Anoop Menon as Crime Branch DYSP Nanda Kishore who investigates a series of murders that takes place within a week. Twenty One Gms also features Renji Panicker, Leona Lishoy, Anu Mohan and Ranjith featuring in major supporting roles. Produced by Rinish KN under the banner of The Front Row Productions, the cinematography of the film was done by Jithu Damodar and was edited by Appu N. Bhattathiri. The soundtrack was composed by Deepak Dev, with lyrics written by Vinayak Sasikumar.

Twenty One Gms Movie Review

When an investigator’s life becomes linked with his case, it’s difficult to see his emotional engagement in its processes. Debutant Bibin Krishna’s film 21 Grams, starring Anoop Menon, tells a story of this genre – which is frequently explored in M-Town – right now.

DySP Crime Branch Nanda Kishore is still reeling from the loss of a family member and is hesitant to take on the murder case of two siblings. When he eventually begins working on it, he notices the investigation becoming connected with his own life and hence complex. The film is about how he solves its mysteries and his emotional commitment in it.

There are plenty of suspects, motives, leads, and twists throughout the story to ‘help’ the audience doubt most of the characters on screen, while also trying to solve it all in their own heads. It’s one of those pictures that gives you the impression, on and off, that there’s a lot seething beneath the stoic surface as you intently observe the faces on screen. The underlying pessimism in the narration, even when not explicitly stated, imparts a heaviness to the plot. All of the actors have also contributed the appropriate emotional undertones to the plot.

However, audiences may become impatient with the film’s frequently uneven pace. It’s probably kept this way to keep the audience on their toes, but it’s questionable whether such an approach offered the expected thrills, especially in the second half. The final twist is intriguing, but the scenes leading up to it for a few minutes aren’t exciting enough. Those who enjoy slow-paced police thrillers should check out the flick.
