The Rental Post Credit Scene Explained
‘The Rental,’ directed by Dave Franco, combines thriller and slasher horror clichés. The finished product is a delight for horror movie enthusiasts, thanks to the honest and dedicated storyline. Charlie, Michelle, Josh, and Mina take a weekend trip to a distant vacation rental. The owner’s brother, the home’s caregiver, is a racist.
Their night of revelry goes out of hand. Meanwhile, danger lurks near the mansion, and an untimely death sends the tour further off the cliff. The Rental Post Credit Scene
Like the slasher horror serial killer stereotype, the conclusion keeps the perpetrator’s identity hidden. While they die, the killer restores the room’s original state. He replaces the showerheads. In the sitting area, a recording device is revealed beneath the plant. However, we believe Reggie, the bulldog, is still alive. In the post-credits scene, the killer checks into another B&B, again setting up the cameras.
The only change is that the new location appears to be near a community, making the task easier. He doesn’t have to pursue individuals through the woods. Later scenes expose the secret surveillance footage. People come and go, conversing, and making love. They don’t notice the invisible spectator, which makes us tremble. While the killer snoops around, his victims remain unaware.
Who Kills?
The post-credit sequence is intriguing and disturbing, but it does not reveal a killer’s name. The killer wears a mask, like Leatherface or the Jigsaw Killer. However, his crime history implies he researches a region before making it his hunting ground. He was a prepared peeping tom before the Charlie and company incident. Also, the killer is a voyeur first and foremost, therefore killing follows second. A serial killer? The story demonstrates the killer isn’t afraid to kill.
Do The Cops Catch Them?
Considering the plot, it’s hard to say if the cops catch the killer. But catching him is unlikely. First, he removes all evidence of foul play from the scene. So his identity is unknown. Looking at the film on Josh’s phone, the cops may conclude that it was an inside event. Mina’s disappearance could point to her as the killer, especially if the cops are big on racial profiling. In any case, the killer is still at large, and a sequel may see him apprehended.
