Perhaps you want to see a chilling thriller full of deception, anguish, and melancholy. Perhaps you’d want to see a live heart beating. In any case, Austin Stark’s medical suspense drama ‘The God Committee’ leaves you satisfied. In today’s society, medical science has elevated doctors to the status of Gods, with the ability to control everything from your jaw shape to your life expectancy. Nonetheless, here is a film that portrays doctors as biased, corrupt, and flawed, but most importantly, as immensely empathetic.

Six people, including renowned surgeon Dr. Boxer, try to decide the fate of three patients at a run-down hospital. Six years later, the decision still bothers the doctor, who is struggling to live with life’s irony. With Julia Stiles and Kelsey Grammer in the lead roles, this is one of those films that encourages viewers to think about it. Plot Synopsis for The God Committee

On a rooftop with his girlfriend early in the novel, a boy muses on the growth of science and technology. Soon after, he is killed in a car accident in a Buffalo suburb. Doctors are unable to save the boy from the accident, but they are able to recover his young heart for future use. The past tale is based on a set of events that occurred on November 6, 2014, an average day in the life of Dr. Andre Boxer, a seasoned surgeon who was about to retire. He had no idea that the day will turn out to be one of the most spectacular of his life. Boxer receives a call concerning the heart while having brunch with his romantic interest and colleague Dr. Jordan Taylor.

The heart is compatible with the old but affluent Serena Vasquez, a top-priority patient on the Organ Transplant Committee’s list. While Boxer believes Serena is too old for the transplant and that the kidney can help younger patients live longer lives, his opinion is unimportant in the hospital’s bureaucracy. Dr. Val Gilroy introduces Dr. Jordan Taylor as Boxer’s replacement on the same date, as he is leaving the hospital for the private sector the next month. Father Charlie Dunbar, a corrupt attorney turned spiritual teacher, also attends the committee discussion.

However, the matter becomes more worse when Serena dies during the surgery. The heart is on its way, and they discover three patients in the hospital who are heart-compatible. The patients come from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds, including an African American doorman, an elderly lady, and the son of a wealthy businessman with ties to the hospital management. Dr. Boxer is in the midst of a breakthrough in 2021 – he may have created the formula to commence inter-species transplant. Boxer, on the other hand, could be suffering from a failing heart.

Who Gets the Heart at the End of The God Committee? Did They Make It Through the Operation?

Following Serena Vasquez’s untimely death, the physicians search for another compatible patient while the clock continues to tick. Walter Curtis, Status 1-B, who has DCM, is the other patient being considered for transplant. Jordan’s patient Walter has strong morals and appears to be the ward’s cheerleader. His menial employment as a doorman has paid for his daughters’ higher education. However, Walter attempted suicide nine years ago by swallowing a bottle of Percocet and may still be mentally unstable.

Trip Granger, the son of Emmett Granger, whose Granger Venture Partners effectively runs the hospital, is the second match. Emmett Granger, on the other hand, has secured for a $25 million funding for the hospital “independent of Trip’s prognosis.” In other words, he pays the doctors into making a decision in Trip’s favor. On the flip side, Trip isn’t exactly a saint — he overdosed on cocaine a year ago, and UNOS prohibits them from performing a transplant on a drug-addicted patient.

Janet Pike is the third candidate for the heart. She has a high general knowledge score and is, strangely, healthier than her two younger competitors, but she is not without defects. She has no support system because she lives alone, and the head nurse reminds the committee that she is nasty to hospital employees. Meanwhile, Trip’s cocaine test results are positive, but Gilroy thinks that the ampicillin in his blood caused the false positive. During the coffee break, Dr. Taylor pays a visit to Holly Matson, Trip Granger’s girlfriend. Holly Matson is expecting a child, and Trip is the father.

Talyor interrogates Holly when Emmett visits her regarding Trip’s return to cocaine use. Holly requests a lawyer, but when Taylor tells Holly about her pregnancy, Holly reveals a heartbreaking reality that weighs heavily on Taylor’s decision. Trip and Holly were on their way to the hospital because Trip was experiencing chest trouble. When Holly revealed that Taylor would be a father, he attempted to toss her out of the car. However, they were involved in an accident because Holly’s jacket became caught to the vehicle’s door.

In other words, Trip was the source of his own dissatisfaction. Dr. Val Gilroy also hides some ampicillin tablets in Trip’s pocket to make the case appear credible. Dr. Boxer is aware that Trip is allergic to ampicillin, but Boxer is biased because Trip’s father is a key investor in his start-up. Despite Allan’s vote, Trip receives the heart, and Dr. Boxer successfully completes the procedure. Six months later, Trip dies of an overdose, rendering the procedure pointless and the judgment incorrect.

Is Boxer still alive or dead? What is his relationship with Taylor like?

Taylor appears to be a strong character with firm moral convictions, yet the six years have transformed her as a person. Under her leadership, the transplant program becomes one of the cleanest in the country, with ratings of more than 85, but she remains expressionless. Taylor learns through Dunbar that Dr. Boxer may have a weak heart, which makes her recollect even more. Six years ago, on the same day as the heart transplant saga, Taylor informed Boxer that she would be a mother and that Boxer would be the child’s father.

Boxer demeaned her by suggesting that she aid the child “financially.” Boxer also made the ultimate choice on the heart transplant, and while he believed it was justifiable, it was a terrible decision in retrospect. With his heart weakening, Boxer is unable to do his studies. The streets are aware of his illness, despite his refusal to accept it. It’s probably ironic, therefore, that he needs a transplant in the first place. Emmett Granger, his start-backer up’s and an old buddy, arranges for a heart from the underground market.

They have to fly to Istanbul, and in the end, Taylor puts her disagreements aside and agrees to do the surgery, joining them on the voyage. Taylor agrees in part because Boxer has come to see his estranged son, Hunter. However, Boxer dies in transportation, and the procedure is canceled. When Taylor awakens on the trip, she discovers that Boxer’s heart has stopped beating. While the finale may be unsatisfying, Boxer’s death may serve as poetic justice.

Is the Monkey Alive or Dead? Is the study a success?

Boxer departed the hospital in 2014 to pursue a private venture. His start-up, X Origins, is on the verge of a breakthrough in 2021. Boxer has nearly figured out xenotransplantation, or organ transplantation between species. The research would transform medical science by virtually eliminating the world’s organ shortage. As Dr. Taylor sarcastically points out, it would abolish the committee and allow her to put on the doctor’s robe once more. Emmett Granger is another enthusiastic backer of the study. Granger’s attitude changes when he learns of Dr. Boxer’s illness.

Boxer’s shaky hand prevents him from performing the kidney transplant from the pig to the monkey, but his associate Pope comes to the rescue. The monkey, however, dies from internal issues, compromising Boxer’s years of effort. His juniors prepare another test subject in a matter of weeks, thanks to his unyielding spirit. When Boxer dies, Dr. Taylor assumes control of the transplant. Her operation seemed to be a success. Emmett Granger bursts into tears as she delivers a speech to the financiers.
