Synopsis of the Falls Plot

‘The Falls’ opens with Pin-Wen and her daughter Xiao Jing being separated in their apartment when Xiao Jing’s classmate tests positive for Covid-19. The mother and daughter, who have a tumultuous relationship, begin their quarantine in separate rooms. During her confinement, Xiao Jing maintains her distance from her mother and remains in her room without engaging with Pin-Wen. She calls her ex-husband Qi-wen to discuss their daughter and professes her affection for him despite his current marriage.

Pin-Wen leaves her apartment on a rainy night to hunt for Xiao Jing, believing her daughter has vanished. The cops take her to the hospital and call Xiao Jing, who was in the apartment the entire time. Xiao Jing is informed by the doctor that her mother suffered a nervous breakdown. She also discovers that her father cheated on her mother with his current wife and that she has a step-brother who was born prior to their parents’ divorce. Meanwhile, Pin-Wen is sacked from her job because of her unusual behavior.

Pin-Wen and Xiao Jing’s apartment unit catches fire after a few days due to the former’s mental collapse, and the doctor confirms to Xiao Jing that her mother is suffering from insanity. The daughter begins to care for her mother, and Pin-Wen finds work in a neighboring grocery. When they face foreclosure, they also sell their luxurious flat and relocate into a low-rent apartment. Pin-Wen goes on a date with Mr. Chen, the manager of her grocery, while Xiao Jing considers continuing her studies.

Is Xiao Jing Dead or Alive at the End of The Falls?

Xiao Jing is still alive. Xiao Jing attends a BBQ party with her classmates and friends by a river a few days after moving into a new apartment. While she and her classmates are enjoying their outing, the river unexpectedly floods owing to dam water discharge, sweeping Xiao Jing and some of her classmates away. Pin-Wen gets a phone call from one of her daughter’s teachers, who tells her about the tragedy. She watches the news with bated breath, hoping to learn something about her daughter. In the news, she sees rescue workers saving youngsters.

Even though her face is obscured on television, we can see that Xiao Jing is alive and well, as evidenced by her clothing. Pin-Wen, who is anxious to see her daughter alive, learns that her daughter has been saved and is being treated by paramedics. Even though the news takes her breath away for a moment, she recognizes her daughter, who is alive and well. Xiao Jing’s near-death experience saves her mother from another serious psychotic episode.

Is Pin-Wen able to recover from psychosis?

Xiao Jing’s connection with her mother alters when Pin-Wen is diagnosed with psychosis. She begins to spend more time and engage with her mother than ever before. She becomes an extraordinary support system for Pin-Wen, who is dealing with significant economic troubles, mental anguish following her divorce, and recently diagnosed psychosis. Xiao Jing does everything she can to alleviate her mother’s mental load. More than anything else, the warmth she creates between herself and her mother works wonders for Pin-Wen.

Pin-psychosis Wen’s is helped by Xiao Jing’s transformation. Pin-Wen is on the path to recovery with the support of her daughter, despite the fact that she does not and cannot heal from her mental illness in such a short period of time. With Manager Chen’s presence, Pin-Wen finally moves on from her fruitless affections for her ex-husband. She realizes that Qi-wen, who cheated on her without her knowledge, is also leaving her life. The realization is also beneficial to her emotional health. Because Xiao Jing is still alive and healthy, we may anticipate Pin-Wen to continue her healing path with the help of her daughter.

Are Pin-Wen and Manager Chen destined to be together?

When Pin-Wen understands that Qi-Wen has no plans to return to her life, she lets go of her expectations. Manager Chen came into her life at the time and asks her out. On their first date, she discloses to him that she has psychosis. She also claims that she lied about her husband’s death and her past work experience in order to secure a job at a supermarket. Chen seeks to understand Pin-Wen rather than confronting her about the lies she told him. When she expects him to depart, he tries to hold her hands.

Although Pin-Wen and Manager Chen still have a long way to go before they can be together, his capacity to understand and embrace her gives him a chance to be with her. Following the date night, he assists Pin-Wen and Xiao Jing in moving into their new apartment. After assisting the mother and daughter, he promises to be present for her. Manager Chen is an outlier in Pin-life, Wen’s given that the people around her, whether her ex-husband, former colleagues, or neighbors, have always isolated her. His sensitivity and compassion for Pin-Wen have a beneficial effect on her, and we can anticipate them to develop a life together.
