The Ending of London Has Fallen Explained: Does The President Die?

The 2016 action thriller film ‘London Has Fallen,’ directed by Iranian-Swedish director Babak Najafi, packs an explosive punch if you are prepared to take it. After the 2013 film ‘Olympus Has Fallen,’ this is the second episode in the ‘Has Fallen’ trilogy. Following the death of the British Prime Minister, US President Benjamin Asher and his motorcade fly to London to attend the funeral service.

However, when a terrorist army unleashes startling pandemonium, civilian life in the city comes to a halt. Aamir Barkawi, the brains of the plot, accepts responsibility and threatens to execute the US president live on television. While the Brits suspect foul activity on the inside, Banning is tasked with protecting Asher from the terrorist swarm. The film is a genuine blockbuster, full of twists and turns and a star-studded cast that includes Morgan Freeman, Aaron Eckhart, and Gerard Butler. If you want to follow the fast-paced ending more closely, let us now analyse the closing minutes bit by bit. WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD.

Synopsis of the Plot of London Has Fallen

Aamir Barkawi, the mastermind terrorist and worldwide arms dealer who is on the Global Most Wanted list, attends his daughter’s wedding. Meanwhile, G8 intelligence detects a signal from the area and launches a drone strike. Barkawi and his daughter appear to be killed. Two years after the prologue, the narrative begins.

The death of British Prime Minister James Wilson has placed a pall over international affairs, and political leaders from the G7 member countries attend his funeral. With each nation providing their own security staff, the event quickly becomes a spectacle. The media promotes the burial service as the most secure event on the planet.

The US president, Benjamin Asher, is also among the dignitaries, but Secret Service Director Lynne Jacobs understands how impossible it would be to protect the President. She plans the entourage’s route with the President’s private bodyguard, Mike Banning, from Stansted Airport to Somerset House via a 12-minute Marine One ride to St. Paul’s Cathedral, where the burial ceremony will take place. Because their plates are full, the Brits are unable to provide further security.

We eventually learn that the security services are rife with uniformed terrorists. The action begins as the President arrives at Somerset House and shakes hands with the current Prime Minister, Clarkson. Uniformed gunners begin shooting rounds at civilians before they can assess the severity of the impact. Shortly after, we witness dramatic explosions at St. Paul’s Cathedral, Buckingham Palace, and the Chelsea Bridge.

Antonio Gusto, the Italian Prime Minister, dies while on a tour of Buckingham Palace. Tsutomu Nakushima, the Japanese Prime Minister who was caught in traffic at the bridge explosion, suffers a similar fate. As the Vice-President assumes command of the situation from the White House, Benjamin Asher and Mike Banning must withstand the damage on the ground and survive the chaos.

Ending of London Has Fallen: Does The President Die?

The President’s protection is of the utmost importance to Mike Banning and most authorities in the United States. As a result, Banning transports the President to an MI6 safe house managed by Jacquelin “Jax” Marshall immediately after the attack. They receive a communication from the Vice-President, who informs them that a delta team is on its way to save the President. Only approximately 30 minutes after receiving the message, they discover a delta force beyond the safe house’s boundaries.

However, a legitimate delta force cannot arrive at the place in such a short period of time, and Banning determines that their facility has been breached. However, Banning and Asher flee the safe house after discovering a bulletproof automobile in the garage. They are on their way to a safe spot when they are hit by a truck. Terrorists kidnap Asher and take him to an under-construction skyscraper. Meanwhile, Mike catches up with the genuine delta force and arrives at the destination.

It’s nearly eight o’clock in the morning, when Kamran Barkawi, Aamir Barkawi’s son, attempts to execute Asher. Mike, on the other hand, arrives just in time. They depart the site after a firefight. When encircled, Mike requests that the delta force captain charge the explosives he had previously placed on a pipe. While the building is on fire, Mike and Asher take a leap of faith through the elevator shaft. Finally, the Delta Force checks the debris and discovers the President in one piece.

Is Aamir Barkawi still alive or dead?

Mike Banning’s inventiveness helps the delta team successfully rescue the President. However, near the end of the film, Barkawi telephones Vice President Allan Trumbull, saying that the conflict will not be over. Aamir’s desire for vengeance has grown as US drones have killed his daughter and now Kamran. Trumbull, on the other hand, instructs him to look up in the sky.

Aamir mentally prepares himself for the impending doom as he gazes up at the sky. Trumbull, who was waiting for Barkawi’s call (or more accurately, waiting for the call to be traced to Barkawi’s position), authorises the drone to engage. The drone explodes in Barkawi’s lair, killing him and the majority of his guards. As a result, Barkawi is almost certainly killed in the attack.

Does Benjamin Asher Resign from the Presidency? Is Mike Leaving His Job?

Both Benjamin and Mike are alive after the terrorist attack. In the final scene of the film, we see Mike at home with his wife and a baby daughter he named Lynne after the late Secret Service Director. According to the partial letter drafted on his laptop, Banning is considering leaving the military. However, Allan Trumbull immediately addresses the country. Trumbull is the Vice-President for the time being, but in Asher’s absence, he assumes command of the administration.

However, as Allan becomes President in the third chapter of the film, we believe that Benjamin Asher eventually relinquishes his position to care for his family. Following the tragic event, he seemed to have begun to value his life and the lives of those around him more than a coveted position. Allan, on the other hand, speaks of the need to act. Inaction makes you just as culpable as the perpetrator because you chose not to act. Mike deletes his resignation letter after hearing the motivational speech. As a result, we do not believe Mike will leave his position, but Asher will retire sooner or later.
