The Legend of Vox Machina Episode 7, 8, and 9 Recap and Ending Explained

The adult animated series ‘The Legend of Vox Machina,’ based on the long-running fandom web serial ‘Critical Role,’ is a vibrant and gory epic that follows the titular squad of heroes on their fatal adventure. The plot is based on the ‘Dungeons and Dragons’ universe, namely Percival De Rolo’s tale arc. Following the first two episodes, which set the stage for the plot, the remaining episodes immerse viewers in Percy’s past, which is intertwined with the vampiric couple Sylus and Delilah Briarwood. The seventh, eighth, and ninth episodes follow Percy and his friends on their quest to recover the De Rolo mansion and free the commoners. The ninth episode has a cliffhanger finish, which we will discuss later, but first, let us recap the events of the episodes. WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD.

Recap of The Legend of Vox Machina Episodes 7, 8, and 9

The seventh episode starts with Percy recounting his previous contract with Orthax and how he came up with the pepperbox gun. He also reveals the list in order to provide a pretext for Captain Stonefell’s murder. Along with Capt. Stonefell, the roster includes Anna Ripley, Professor Anders, and The Briarwoods. Meanwhile, they plan a way inside the tightly guarded De Rolo mansion. Despite Vex and others’ scepticism, Scanlan organises a solo mission to Duke Vedimere’s mansion.

Scanlan’s strategy comprises creating a burning distraction, allowing the others to go ahead and rescue Cassandra. Scanlan travels to Duke Vedmire’s mansion with the intent of setting it on fire. When the plan goes awry, Scanlan hunts through his inventory for reinforcement. The first potion causes Scanlan to vanish and reappear somewhere, the second to shrink, and the third to vomit flames. Scanlan can set fire to the house as he evolves into a live flamethrower. He flees to the rooftop, but the Duke pursues him. Scanlan manages to flee after a fierce skirmish.

In other news, the remainder of the squad infiltrates Professor Anders’ home and discovers Cassandra. However, while attempting to bargain with Anders, Percy cuts Cassandra’s throat. Anders reveals his army of giants while Vax and Keyleah try to cure Cassandra. They appear unbeatable at first. However, Percy realises that if he targets the slats of the armors, they can be killed. The heroes defeat the armoured beasts, but another problem arises. Professor Anders is skilled at mind control, and he hypnotises Grog and the rest of the squad, with the exception of Percy.

Percy fires a bullet into Anders’ cheek using his deft shooting skills. When his hypnotic tongue falls out of his mouth, the Vox Machina regains consciousness. After Anders’ death, Keyleah waves her wand towards the sky, lifting the cloud cover from Whitestone. She plans to give the commoners a sign that the revolt is still alive, but she ends up startling Delilah Briarwood. Delilah summons her steward and murders him before presenting his body to the Whispered One. In turn, the dead rise from the graveyards surrounding Whitestone and march towards the resistance.

A flashback sequence depicts Delilah’s dealings with the devil in order to resurrect her dying husband. Scanlan is the first to come into contact with the horde, but he comes too late to warn the rest of the company. The Vox Machina is having difficulty dealing with the enormous zombie horde on their back. Despite the fact that Keyleah saves Vax from certain death, a zombie bites Scanlan’s hand. Following an examination, Vex announces that Scanlan’s hand may be amputated due to necrosis. While Percy refuses to lead the rebellion due to his prior guilt (he ran rather than fighting back), Archibald joins forces with him to fight the undead army.

However, Archibald’s force crumbles in the face of Duke Vedmire’s demonic prowess, and he perishes on the battlefield. Pike battles with her inner darkness in the shrine, eventually collapsing into a coma. However, astral projecting to Whitestone, she sees the truth in real time. Combating the undead becomes a piece of cake as she imbues every weapon with the might of the Everlight. Keeper Yennen tells the crew that she will take over from there, while the Vox Machina and Cassandra travel to the De Rolo Mansion to seek vengeance on the Briarwoods.

Is Duke Vedmire Dead or Alive? The Legend of Vox Machina Episode 9 Ending: Is Duke Vedmire Dead or Alive?

Duke Vedmire can’t believe his eyes when the Vox Machina pushes back the army of the undead. Looking at his side’s defeat, he mumbles a few phrases like impossible and unfathomable. Meanwhile, Percy uses his pepperbox pistol to shoot Vedmire in the leg. Vedmire’s name, however, is not on Percy’s list. As a result, he departs, leaving Vedmire to the commoners of Whitestone. We get the impression that Vedmire’s future is bleak as they gather around him with their separate weapons. Scanlan’s assault has already weakened him, despite his seeming superhuman power. We don’t suppose he escapes the wrath of the Whitestone residents when his leg is injured. As a result, we might deduce that he dies in the scene, bringing poetic justice to Archibald’s death.

Who Is The Character They Meet In The Dungeon?

Vox Machina and Cassandra enter the De Rolo home through a backdoor near the end of the ninth episode. The door leads to the dungeon, which also serves as a prison. Keyleah is terrified by the dungeon’s eerie atmosphere. Meanwhile, they hear a voice from a prison cell promising to transport them to the Briarwoods. They uncover an older woman, possibly in her sixties, after shedding light on the cell. While Percy points his gun at the woman, Vax rushes to open the lock. We don’t know her genuine identity because the show finishes on a cliffhanger. Fans know that this woman is Anna Ripley in disguise because the plot follows ‘Critical Role’ from close quarters.

In the original tale, Ripley, one of the Briarwoods’ chief scientific inventors, is Percy’s arch-enemy. In the past, a year after the Briarwoods coup, Percy tried an assassination, which did not go well. Anna Ripley has been attempting to reproduce Percy’s guns technology for a long time, but has lost a hand in the process. Ripley finished her work and packed her belongings about a week before Vox Machina arrived in town. However, when Anders informed the Briarwoods of the news, Ripley was able to get a place in the dungeon.
