The Boys Season 3 Episode 2 Ending Explained
Following an explosive conclusion to the first episode, ‘The Boys’ raises the stakes tenfold in the second. All of the characters are in tight circumstances, trying to wiggle their way out of perilous situations where one false move could mean death. As the show pulls back the layers to uncover certain mysteries, it also introduces additional startling plot twists. Here, we try to figure out what the finale signifies and where it might lead the tale.
Recap of The Boys Season 3 Episode “The Only Man in the Sky”
The episode begins with a reenactment of The Deep’s encounter with The Church of the Collective. Deeper, his book, is being made into a TV series, and his popularity appears to be on the rise. A-Train tries to rebrand himself in order to increase his fame. Meanwhile, Homelander strives for control as Starlight assumes co-captainship. Soon, he will be bereft of any solace he found in Stormfront. She chews off her own tongue and dies in the hospital as he is busy planning for his huge televised birthday gala.
Hughie chooses to investigate Red River while still attempting to digest the facts about Victoria. When Starlight is engrossed in Homelander’s birthday celebration, he goes it alone. He discovers that Red River is a home for orphaned superpowered youngsters, mostly due to their own abilities. He also discovers the link between her and Stan Edgar, confirming our hypothesis that the two had been working together all along. He tells Annie, who is reuniting with an old flame named Supersonic, about this information.
Butcher, unaware of Victoria’s secret, embarks on his own investigation to unearth another truth. He goes to see Gunpowder, while Frenchie and Kimiko meet the Crimson Countess. The duo’s objective is a failure, but Butcher is successful in discovering a thread to follow.
Ending of The Boys Season 3 Episode 2
Butcher is convinced that the Supe is hiding something about Soldier Boy after his experience with Gunpowder. However, he recognizes that he is incapable of fighting him alone. Ryan’s message softens his heart, and he begins to wonder if he might now pursue a more serene way of life. However, a phone call from Hughie changes everything.
Hughie had tried to handle things on his own, but we all knew he couldn’t without Butcher. When he realizes Butcher is on the verge of quitting the fight, he provides him another reason to stick around. He tells him everything about Victoria Neuman, which convinces Butcher that Vought has rigged the entire system and that no one, not even the government, can do anything about it. This makes him even more determined to discover the secret weapon capable of killing Homelander, and he is willing to go to any length to do so.
He injects himself with V-24 to fight Gunpowder on his own. This grants him abilities comparable to Homelander’s, making him nearly invincible. Butcher knocks the truth out of Gunpowder and realizes that the answers he wants may be found close to home. Soldier Boy was killed in Nicaragua on a CIA mission, it turns out. What’s even more astonishing is that Grace Mallory was their handler at the time.
Even if Butcher finds the next piece of the puzzle that will lead him to Homelander’s demise, taking V-24 may not work out so well for him. Despite Edgar’s assurances to Robert Singer that V-24 was ready for use, he revealed that they were still “ironing out some problems.” Maeve, like Butcher, stated that she had no idea how the compound will impact him. Its effects are only expected to last 24 hours, but we have yet to see how those 24 hours play out. Butcher, it appears, still needs to learn how to harness such great power, and before he does, he may wind up injuring others.
When someone publicly questions Homelander about Stormfront’s death, he is still hurting from it. The Supe is tired of apologizing to everyone all the time, so he finally decides to say something about it. He screams about being blamed and despised for being superior to others. All of the rage he’d been storing inside for over a year bursts to the surface. His statements astounded everyone, and with his ratings already falling, it appears that another PR nightmare is on the way. It appears that he may have finally lost the adoration of his fans. And this begs the question: what happens to Homelander when he has nothing to lose?
