Slow Horses Season 1 Recap and Ending Explained

The first season of ‘Slow Horses’ concludes with a frenzy of twists and reveals in episode 6, aptly dubbed ‘Follies.’ The kidnapping of Hassan Ahmed continues to keep the Slow Horses and MI5 on their toes, but bigger plans are afoot. A surprising revelation regarding Jackson Lamb and Catherine Standish’s connection provides us a tantalizing glimpse at their backstories while also keeping the drama continuing until the season finale’s final moments. Let’s check whether we’ve gotten all of the information from ‘Slow Horses’ episode 6. WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD.

Recap of the Season 1 Finale of Slow Horses

The episode begins with Jackson and River being freed by the MI5 after successfully blackmailing Diana Taverner with damaging evidence. Following that, the MI5 chief confronts right-wing politician Peter Judd, threatening to expose his numerous affairs and affiliations to unethical groups. In exchange for her quiet, she requests that Peter provide her with information about Hassan Ahmed’s kidnappers.

Following Zeppo’s death in episode 5, the kidnappers, now reduced to just Curly and Larry, proceed to a hidden location to carry out Hassan’s murder and film it. When Larry arrives, he assists Hassan in fleeing and drives away in their van, leaving Curly behind. Unfortunately for Larry, the MI5 has tracked down the kidnappers’ car and quickly apprehends him, executing him on the spot. Meanwhile, Curly tracks down Hassan and kidnaps him once more.

The Slow Horses arrive near Curly and Hassan’s position after following Roddy’s intel from the hacked MI5 systems, and River eventually locates the kidnapper and his prisoner. Hassan knocks the kidnapper out while Curly tries to defend himself. The MI5 agents then attempt to assassinate Curly in order to “neatly tie up” the entire plot, but are thwarted by River, Min, and Louisa.

Is Hassan Ahmed Dead or Alive? Slow Horses Season 1 Ending: Is Hassan Ahmed Dead or Alive?

Diana Taverner and her boss, Ingrid Tearney, begin to hide their traces after rescuing Hassan Ahmed. Diana is harshly instructed to delete all files linking the MI5 to Alan Black. The Slow Horses aren’t given credit for saving Hassan, but Jackson Lamb does obtain Catherine Standish’s personal file back from Diana.

The season one finale of ‘Slow Horses’ delves into Jackson Lamb’s intriguing relationship with Catherine Standish. The personal file he receives from Diana contains sensitive sections concerning Catherine, her late husband Charles, and Jackson, implying a link between them. The episode concludes with the bombshell revelation that it was Jackson who murdered Catherine’s spouse and pretended it was a suicide.

But, with all of the twists and turns that the season 1 finale throws at us, let’s focus on the fundamental enigma. Hassan Ahmed is eventually rescued by River Cartwright and the Slow Horses and survives his abduction. Things grow dangerously close, and Curly is apprehended just in time before murdering the young pupil. Hassan is then forced to resist the impulse to kill Curly himself, which he ultimately resists.

Although Hassan is secure, the MI5 is keeping a tight check on him. The former abduction victim is one of the few persons who knows about MI5 agent Alan Black’s role in the kidnapping. As a result, Diana must insist that Hassan remain silent. In this regard, the young student’s university loans are forgiven, and his comedy club receives a hidden grant from MI5. According to his brief news appearance, Hassan is not interested in revealing anything and being deeper embroiled in a CIA scheme.

What Befalls Diana Taverner?

Diana Taverner’s intentions are shattered when the Slow Horses find Hassan before her. She not only misses out on being the first to approach the hostage, but she also misses out on the opportunity to murder and permanently quiet Curly. The kidnapper, like Hassan, is aware that an MI5 agent was engaged in the kidnapping, a fact that could make Diana’s life very difficult if it became public.

Diana, like a seasoned power player, comes out on top, and she and her employer, Ingrid Tearney, are credited with Hassan’s dramatic rescue. She must, however, maintain the secrecy of her relationship with Alan Black. She must also hand over Catherine Standish’s personal file to Jackson Lamb in order for him to remain silent on the topic.

What is Jackson Lamb’s connection to Catherine Standish?

The season finale teases an intriguing previous relationship between Jackson Lamb and Catherine Standish. There is clearly a lot that the former is keeping from the latter, and when confronted, Jackson finally admits that he supplied the gun that Catherine’s husband, Charles, used to commit suicide. As surprised as Catherine is by the revelation, the truth appears to be weirder.

The season finale’s concluding scenes show that Jackson murdered Charles Partner. River’s grandfather, David Cartwright, appears to be engaged in the murder as well. Their motivations, though, remain unknown. However, it is clear from their demeanor that murdering Charles is not part of any official MI5 operation. Furthermore, Jackson is desperate to keep the killing hidden, which is why he lies to Catherine. Killing Charles Partner appears to be Jackson Lamb’s great secret, and it’s possible that’s why he’s at Slough House.
