A marriage, a betrayal and a bitter disappointment are among the major events of the end of season 2 of Sanditon. the Sanditon season 2 finale ended the love triangles the Heywood sisters found themselves in. After Alison learned that Captain William Carter had cheated on her, she realized that it was Captain Declan Fraser who truly loved her, and she responded wholeheartedly to his feelings.

Charlotte’s love triangle was all the more thorny because her two potential suitors, Alexander Colbourne and Colonel Lennox, were rivals with sordid pasts. Charlotte mourned Sidney throughout the Sanditon season 2, but she began to give in to her growing feelings for Colbourne, only to be shocked by his hot and cold behavior towards her. Without Sidney and Charlotte at the center of the series, the Sanditon season 2 cleverly expanded its palette so that every major character had a plotline throughout the season.

This allowed the end of season 2 of sanditon to end with a stunning reveal that kicks off Season 3 and puts the focus back on Charlotte Heywood as Sanditon’s romantic lead.

Sanditon Season 2 Ending Explained

In the Sanditon season 2, Miss Heywood swore she would be beholden to a man no more and she decided she would marry no one now that Sidney is gone. Still, Charlotte feels a powerful attraction to Alexander Colbourne and she hopes he will sincerely make a romantic gesture to her because Miss Heywood is ready to accept a marriage proposal.

For Charlotte, her experience with Colbourne is a bitter disappointment that led her to give up her dreams to become a farmer’s wife. In a way, Charlotte may also have decided to marry Ralph since she sees Alison so happy to be married and become a farmer’s wife.

Charlotte is no quitter and it’s hard to believe that Miss Heywood is really going to marry Ralph in Sanditon Season 3. One of the wisest choices of Sanditon season 2 was to emphasize Sidney’s importance, even in death, instead of making the character disappear.

Thanks to Sidney’s memory, Tom developed the backbone he needed to assert himself as the leader of Sanditon. When Tom says “Sanditon goes from strength to strength” at the end of season 2he does it with the self-confidence he has finally gained.

Thanks to Sidney’s letter, Georgiana learns the truth about Lockhart just in time, and the artist is banished from Sanditon. However, Sidney’s letters also reveal that Georgiana’s mother is still alive. This gives a new direction to the reunion of mother and daughter in Sanditon season 3.

Maybe Sanditon season 3 will finally reveal the truth about why Arthur thinks marriage isn’t for him.

It is not yet known if Clara will return in season 3 of Sanditon, but the season 2 finale set up an intriguing plot for Esther and Edward. How will Lord Babington react now that George has become their adopted son? And, amusingly, will Lady Denham’s punishments work and make Edward a better, repentant man?

It will be fascinating to see how the story of Edward, Esther and Lady Denham will continue to unfold in Season 3 of Sanditon.
