In ‘Pam & Tommy’ episode 6, titled ‘Pamela in Wonderland,’ the titular actress attends her first unpleasant deposition. Following her and Tommy’s legal action to try to stop the release of their private tape, Pamela is subjected to extremely personal questioning under the pretext of a deposition.

Through flashbacks, we also see a completely different version of the celebrity – a rare look of what the iconic Pamela Anderson might have been like before she became famous. Episode 6 quickens the pace of the show and provides a snapshot of Pamela’s life before notoriety. This chapter contains a lot of interesting details, so let’s take a closer look. WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD.

Recap of Pam & Tommy Episode 6

The episode begins with Pamela in a deposition, accompanied by her lawyer, Richard Alden. The man across from her asks an obnoxious query that contains the word “genitals.” Pamela is calmed down by her lawyer, who informs her that the personal questions are part of the deposition but would not be discussed during court hearings. However, the inquiries remain direct — bordering on nasty — and imply that Pamela “leaked” her tape on purpose for financial gain.

Meanwhile, we follow Pamela’s journey from a little hamlet in Canada to her first taste of superstar glory through flashbacks. She attends a football game with her (then) boyfriend in 1989. The stadium camera captures a young and shy Pamela, who is subsequently contacted by a representative from Labatt’s marketing department. Things pick up speed after that, and after appearing on a billboard, the young potential actress receives a call from Playboy magazine inviting her to Los Angeles for a test shoot. She also meets Hugh Hefner, the publication’s famous patriarch, who gives her stardom advice, leaving young Pamela dumbfounded.

As the deposition progresses in the present, we are given to yet another sequence of flashbacks, this time to Pamela and Tommy’s time together shortly after their wedding. The pair, who are madly in love, embark on a camping trip where they film the disastrous video. Tommy begins organizing another trip to Fiji soon as they return. He also emphatically removes the private tape from the video camera and places it in his safe.

Pam & Tommy Episode 6 Ending: Why is Pamela Held Accountable for the Tape’s Leak?

Back in the present, the deposition resumes the heinous line of questions against Pamela. She is forced to answer more insensitive questions, and it is implied that she purposefully disclosed the private recording. When the deposition concludes for the day, her interrogator recommends that they resume the following day. Pamela, enraged, informs Alden that she is finished answering questions and that the lawyer should find another employment if he wants to keep his job. The episode concludes with the traumatized celebrity exiting the empty deposition room.

Despite the fact that Pamela and Tommy are the plaintiffs, the treatment meted out to the former throughout her deposition gives the impression that she is on trial. Her motives and innocence in relation to the leaked footage are continually called into question. Worse, the lawyer questioning Pamela implies that her history of working as an adult model for Playboy magazine makes it likely that she intentionally circulated the tape to get more money.

Her interrogator’s argument is based on the idea that Pamela, dissatisfied with the pay she receives for Playboy photoshoots, leaked her tape so that she might also be featured in the rival Penthouse magazine. This is rejected by the actress, who is outraged at the allegation that she would purposefully disclose her personal tape. Despite this, she is forced to sit and watch the tape during the deposition, and is occasionally questioned about its contents. Of course, the people who actually leaked the tape, Rand and Uncle Miltie, are noticeably absent from the episode.

What Happens If Pamela Refuses to Make Any More Deposits?

Pamela is traumatized and enraged by the end of episode 6. She then turns on her lawyer, telling him she will not answer any more personal questions and that he must find another solution. Though we don’t know if Alden will be able to fulfill her request, things don’t appear to be going well for the actress.

On the one hand, pursuing legal action would result in many more such uncomfortable interrogations in which Pamela would be forced to continually answer intimate questions given by strangers. On the other hand, if she refuses to be questioned, she and Tommy will almost certainly be forced to dismiss their case. This would almost certainly result in Penthouse magazine (and possibly other publications and online) further popularizing the private tape. Legal action appears to be the last option for containing the audio, and if Pam refuses to be questioned, the recording may go even further.

What happened to Tommy? Why is he not being interrogated?

Despite Tommy’s soothing “We’re in this together” reassurance to Pamela when they first received the deposition summons, the spouse is nowhere to be found. Pamela is interrogated alone about their private honeymoon, and she is even forced to answer questions about Tommy’s personal life with other women. Meanwhile, it appears that Tommy will not be called to the depositions.

Pamela looks to be being targeted for being a sex symbol more than anything else. The fact that she is aggressively questioned while being the victim obviously demonstrates that the goal of the deposition is to dig farther into her personal life rather than to understand her side of the events. This also brings us back to Pamela’s initial concerns when she and Tommy learn of the tape’s leak. The latter is largely unscathed by the scandal, whereas Pamela is thrust into the eye of the storm, seemingly alone and surrounded by men who do not comprehend her predicament.
