The third episode of Season 6 of Starz’s historical drama ‘Outlander’ chronicles the aftermath of Henri-birth. Recap of Outlander Season 6 Episode 3

The third episode of season 6, titled ‘Temperance,’ begins with a group of children putting Henri-Christian in a basket and letting him float down the river to see if the baby is possessed by a demon. Jamie summons the children to his house and instructs them to either touch a scorching poker stick or the baby as punishment for their actions. When the youngsters touch the baby, they discover he is not a burning demon boy.

Fergus confides in Claire about his concerns about Henri-future Christian’s as a dwarf. He turns to booze, believing that the baby’s dwarfism is his responsibility. He storms out of their house when Marsali asks him to quit consuming alcohol. Tom Christie approaches Claire and informs her that his left hand has healed sufficiently for him to proceed with the surgery on his right hand. When Claire offers him the ether she created, he refuses and undergoes the operation sans anaesthetic.

When Malva stares out the window at her father’s operation, she runs into Ian. Ian accompany Malva to her home, and the two begin to form a bond. Malva explains to Ian that her mother was hanged on witchcraft charges. Following the operation, Tom spends the night at the Frasers’ house so that Claire can keep an eye on him.

Claire, intrigued by Tom’s strange reaction toward her, asks Jamie if he was in Ardsmuir prison when Malva was conceived. Even while Jamie originally assumes Malva is Tom’s daughter from a second marriage, conceived shortly after his arrival in the New World, Jamie begins to have doubts when Malva informs him she was born in Scotland.

On Quarter Day, his presence at Fraser’s Ridge disgusts the new settlers, prompting him to retaliate against them. He attempts suicide because he believes he is incapable of protecting and providing for his family as a man. Fergus chooses to die rather than live under his wife’s protection, suffering from the guilt of failing to defend his family and child. He severes his nerves in order to bleed to death.

Jamie, on the other hand, spares Fergus from death. Fergus’ adoptive father informs him that his family requires him for more than just what he offers them. Jamie also reminds Fergus of how much he has endured in order to protect his family and how much potential he has to change his life. Jamie’s comments convince Fergus that he must overcome his feelings of guilt. He also recognises that he is not to responsible for the calamities that have befallen his family. The realisations drive him to reconcile with Marsali after swearing an oath to abstain from alcohol.

Yes, Governor Martin gives the pistol to the Cherokees. When Jamie recognises that he should offer the Cherokees a fighting chance to defend themselves, he suggests that the governor provide the weapons they seek. Martin gives the guns to the Cherokees as the Indian agent (through Major MacDonald to Jamie). When the Boston Tea Party occurs, the British Crown becomes aware that rebels may soon wage war against Britain’s independence. Martin supplies weaponry to the Cherokees in the aftermath of the impending war in order to persuade them to become prospective partners on the battlefield.

The Governor knows that ignoring the Cherokees’ demand will lead to them siding with the Rebels, which will harm the Crown and Loyalists. Meanwhile, Claire informs Jamie that the Boston Tea Party marks the beginning of the American Revolutionary War. Claire’s remarks serve as a warning to Jamie, who intends to abandon his allegiance to the Crown in order to fight for the Rebels in the War. When Jamie hands over the guns to the Cherokees, he may warn them about their fate and the result of the conflict, which he is already aware of thanks to Claire and Brianna.
