Recap of Now & Then Episodes 1, 2, and 3
The first episode, ’20 Years,’ begins with a flashback to the year 2000, when a group of friends are celebrating their graduation on a Miami beach. Marcos, Pedro, Alejandro, Ana, Sofia, and Dani are having a good time when Alejandro has a stroke. He is driven to the hospital by his companions. On the way, they collide with another automobile driven by a woman, who is killed on impact. When the five realized Alejandro was also dead, they put him in charge. The buddies flee the scene and seek the assistance of Marcos’ father. Later, they trash Dani’s footage of their time on the beach and fabricate a story about the night’s events for investigative detectives Sullivan and Flora.
In the present, the lives of the companions have not turned out as they had hoped. An anonymous number texts the five college pals, compelling them to attend their reunion. Following the reunion, they are blackmailed for $1 million or risk having their secret revealed. After some debate, the friends agree to pay the money, and Pedro pays the blackmailer with money from his mayor election fund. Finally, Marcos discovers that Dani has been blackmailing them all along. However, by the time he reaches at her apartment to confront her, she has died and the money has gone missing.
‘Buried,’ the second episode, begins with the friends attending Dani’s burial. They chat quietly with Dani’s son, Hugo, who is unaware of the money. As a result, Pedro is compelled to find a different means to repay the money he stole from the election budget. Meanwhile, Marcos is being questioned by authorities regarding Dani’s death. Flora believes Dani’s death had something to do with Alejandro’s unsolved case from 20 years ago. As a result, she examines all of the cassettes in the box she recovered from Dani’s house and discovers that one tape is missing. Hugo leaves town with the money Dani stole from her pals at the end of the episode.
The third episode, titled ‘A Bad Decision,’ begins with Flora discovering Alejandro’s cell phone in 2000. Sofia is questioned about the communications she sent Alejandro but afterwards deleted. Sofia, on the other hand, remains tight-lipped about the matter. In the present, Sofia is summoned for questioning regarding Dani’s death. Sofia was not in her hotel and had no alibi at the time of Dani’s death, according to CCTV evidence. As a result, the police suspect her of being the murderer. Meanwhile, Ana asks her mother’s assistance in repaying the money that Pedro stole. The episode concludes with a flashback in which Sullivan and Flora discover that the woman who was thought to have killed in the accident with Alejandro remained alive after impact. They assume Alejandro and the woman were not alone that night.
Now & Then Episodes 1–3: What Happened the Night Alejandro Died?
The events leading up to Alejandro’s death are gradually drawn out through flashbacks in the first three episodes of the series. As the story progresses, viewers discover that the close group of friends was not exactly on good terms at their graduation. Alejandro and Marcos got into an argument over a drug possession incident. Pedro attempted to reveal his affections for Alejandro, but was saddened. Alejandro and Sofia also had a disagreement about Marcos. Alejandro was already under a lot of pressure from his father, who was pressuring him to be a swimmer.
All of these occurrences point to Alejandro’s death not being an accident. It could have been a revenge plan all along. So far, we know that Alejandro was not killed in the vehicle accident. Instead, he overdosed on MDMA, which Ana had slipped into his drink. Ana eventually revealed the same to Pedro. However, the ending of the third episode reveals that Jessica Thompson, the woman who appeared to have died in the automobile crash with Alejandro, was alive after the accident.
The ending implies that her friends were aware of her survival but chose not to assist her. Instead, they attempted to avoid inevitable jail time. Hugo is also shown to be Jessica’s son, as Dani mentioned. As a result, he is most likely aware of the entire scheme. All things considered, it is clear that the mistake the buddies made 20 years ago is still haunting them now. Dani’s mystery death, Hugo’s hidden objectives, and the group’s destiny are all linked to the night Alejandro died. As a result, the friends must solve the mystery of Alejandro’s death. If Flora and Sullivan discover the truth before the four friends, they will all perish.
