The eighth episode of ‘1883’ is titled ‘The Weep of Surrender.’ The story begins with the caravan recovering from the recent storm. The gang has been sleeping in Native American land for the previous few days and has made no progress on their journey. Before they can go, the party must reassess their path, hazards, and destination. Sam asks members of his tribe to trade with the wagon campers in order to receive the resources they require. The gang receives a few horses and ammo from the Comanche warriors.

Charlie soon departs from the caravan, but not before encouraging Shea to change the group’s itinerary owing to the perils in the trail ahead. Shea chooses to stop the caravan near the tribe’s base. The romance between Sam and Elsa blooms, and the two spend time together. Sam tells Elsa how to kill a buffalo in the countryside. After Elsa kills the buffalo, Sam says that his tribe thinks that eating the buffalo’s heart imparts the animal’s strength to the eater. Margaret, on the other hand, is concerned about Elsa’s developing closeness to Sam. Sam and Elsa, on the other hand, talk about getting married.

Meanwhile, Shea advises the immigrants that settling in Denver is in their best interests. The immigrants, on the other hand, are dissatisfied with the change of plans. In this episode, James, Elsa, and Shea are all faced with difficult decisions. While Shea and James make quick decisions, young Elsa takes her time to process her emotions.
