Paappan is a Malayalam-language crime thriller film directed by Joshiy and co-produced by Gokulam Gopalan, David Kachappilly, and Raaffi Mathirra in 2022. RJ Shaan wrote the script for the film. ASP Vincy Abraham (Neeta Pillai) is assigned to lead the investigation into the death of celebrity Ravi Vamrman’s (Rahul Madhav) driver Rajan (Sreejith Ravi). The murder is immediately followed by another in the same manner as SI Soman (Tini Tom). Vincy focuses on Chacko (Shammy Thilakan) since his method of operation is similar to his.

Meanwhile, DSP (Vijayaraghavan) appoints as an adviser ex-cop Abraham Mathew Mathan, aka Pappan (Suresh Gopi), and Vincy’s father, who had earlier arrested Chacko. Pappan and Vincy don’t get along due of a nasty previous event, yet they agree to collaborate. The inquiry takes numerous twists and turns, and the rest of the plot is around how they track down the culprit.

Joshiy’s staples of vengeance and murder inquiry, interwoven with family, emotions, and melodrama, are also present in Paappan. Suresh Gopi’s return as a supercop is another highlight of the film, albeit he’s only seen in uniform in flashbacks.

Neeta Pillai delivers an outstanding performance, capturing the body language and appearance of a cop while also portraying the emotional side of a police officer’s estranged daughter. The presence of his real-life father overshadowed Gokul Suresh’s performance as Paappan’s son. Suresh Gopi, on the other hand, looks gorgeous in numerous moments. Nyla Usha, who plays his wife, does an excellent job. The remainder of the actors, including Asha Sharath as a doctor, Tini Tom as SI Soman, Nandu as SI Raghavan, Sreejith Ravi as driver Rajan, and Kaniha, did an excellent job.

Joshiy has kept the inquiry suspenseful until the final frame, infusing the plot with various twists. The cinematography by Ajay David Kachappilly is good for an investigative thriller, featuring magnificent images of Pathanamthitta and the Pulimala area.
The first half of the film moves quickly, with suspense and magnificent scenery, but the second half drags, with too much melodrama, interpersonal troubles, and so on.

The film is simply too long at 170 minutes. Paappan is a good suspense thriller film if you’re up for some high voltage melodrama and many turns, but for Suresh Gopi, this is a good choice.
