Malayankunju is a 2022 Indian Malayalam-language survival thriller film directed and written by Sajimon Prabhakar. Fahadh Faasil plays the lead, and Rajisha Vijayan, Indrans, Jaffar Idukki, and Deepak Parambol play supporting roles. Mahesh Narayanan handles cinematography while Arju Benn edits the film, in addition to writing the script. A. R. Rahman composed the soundtrack for the film.

Malayankunju Movie Summary

Anikkuttan is an irritable electronics worker who lives quietly with his mother. When his next-door neighbor’s newborn infant brings up unpleasant memories from his past, his daily routines are interrupted.

Malayankunju Movie Review

Anikuttan (Fahadh Faasil), an electrician by trade, lives with his mother Shanta in a village near Wayanad (Jaya Kurup). Radhakrishnan (Jaffer Idukki), his father, committed himself after his daughter ran away on her wedding day. Anikuttan is haunted by this experience, and he looks down on the lower caste and is irritated by sounds, even an infant’s wail.

When it begins to rain fiercely one monsoon, his neighbors decide to go to the camp, but he refuses. That night, a landslide occurs, trapping him beneath it. The rest of the film revolves around what happens to Anikuttan, if he survives, and what happens to his mother.

Fahadh Faasil is amazing; he portrays the two types of characteristics, before and after the landslide, with ease and perfection; the film belongs to him. His performance as the traumatized son, a brother who refuses to forgive his sister, and his demeanor as someone tough on the outside but extremely vulnerable emotionally, is flawless.

The second half of the film is on a landslide that occurred a year ago in Rajamala, near Wayanad. Watching the scenes gives you a sense of how painful and traumatic it must have been for individuals who experienced the suffering. After the intermission, the film is like looking death in the eyes; it goes into your veins and is great technically, visually, and acting-wise. All of the other characters performed admirably, particularly Indrans as Anikuttan’s uncle Surendran, Jaffer Idukki, and Rajisha Vijayan as Anikuttan’s sister. Sajimon’s direction is excellent, and he has done an excellent job with his actors.

This is a must-see film because of Fahad’s performance.
