Don’t Kill Me Ending Explained

The Italian-original ‘Don’t Kill Me’ (‘Non Mi Uccidere’), directed by Andrea De Sica, is a pleasant rarity in the ever-expanding directory of streaming sites. Although the film aims for an emotion rather than a genre, it is acceptable to classify it as a gruesome supernatural drama about a doomed relationship. It’s similar to ‘Twilight,’ but better. There are no vampires in the traditional sense; only Overdeads exist.

Mirta crawls out of her burial vault after dying from a drug overdose with her adrenaline-junkie boyfriend as an accomplice. She is not, however, the same lady her family formerly knew. Some of you may have found it difficult to digest the rest of the conclusion after witnessing a suicide on TV. Let us delve deeper if the conclusion seems a little hasty. WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD.

Plot Synopsis for Don’t Kill Me

Mirta and her boyfriend Robin are driving at high speeds along a mountain route. Robin resolves to drive with his eyes closed, pleading with Mirta to tell him to move. They avoid a heavy-duty vehicle thanks to good fortune and Robin’s cunning. Mirta and Robin go to a car dump, where Robin warms up some black tablets. They absorb the drug through their eyes, and the next thing we know, both of them are dead from overdosing.

Mirta’s father, Piero, soothes her mother, Amalia, about the tragedy in the mortuary. Piero urged Mirta not to associate with Robin, but Amalia, who seemed to be in shock, couldn’t believe her daughter was dead. The plot goes back in time and reconstructs some of Mirta’s memories. At the moment, she escapes her burial vault and ends up at the neon-lit Dante’s Diner. Mirta spots Robin in the crowd for a brief time, while a guy named Mario inside the club entices Mirta to hook up. In the meantime, something has changed, and Mirta is aware of it.

Mirta notices her hand becoming black and realizes she may need blood to survive. Mirta gets into Mario’s automobile and introduces herself as Luna. Mario interprets Mirta’s name as an indicator of her chaotic behavior, but he wasn’t going for a vivacious zombie. Mario dies, and in a separate occurrence, a mystery man named Luca Bertozzi comes on Mirta’s doorstep. He claims to be a member of the Benandanti cult. Luca tries to persuade Piero that Mirta may return, despite the fact that she is thought dead.

Ending of Don’t Kill Me: Is Mirta Dead or Alive?

Mirta is mostly dead if we have to select between the two. Mirta, on the other hand, is “Overdead,” according to the film’s preference. The Overdeads are formidable creatures that roam the globe after their first death and have been given a sinister new lease on life. These folks cannot die because they are already dead. However, as Luca Bertozzi subsequently explains, if you don’t provide them fodder, they will eventually deteriorate – much like blood. The film embraces its necropolitics or subversion by resurrecting the notion of immortality and vampirism in a new guise.

The fight between life and (over)death is also gendered in the film. In a society full of guys like Piero (the unfaithful father), Robin (the manipulating lover), Luca (the authority), and Mario (a sex fiend), Sara and Mirta feel like outcasts on a daily basis, even when they aren’t blood-sucking zombies. As zombies, however, they recover authority, as evidenced by Mirta changing her name to Luna and abandoning her prior self.

In the end, Mirta beats up a room full of Benandanti goons. Mirta eventually sides with Sara, and as two surrogate women facing the world, they form a team. Mirta — or Luna, her undead incarnation — is thus alive as long as there are bodies to dine on, though the Benandanti may catch up with her later.

Mirta’s Transformation Into an Overdead Is Robin still alive or dead?

To cut a long story short, Paolo was a buddy of Robin and Ago who died at the quarry. Robin used to joke that a vampire had swallowed Paolo, but it turned out that Paolo had become an Overdead. Paolo most likely introduced Robin to the cult organization Benandanti. He obtained the drug and experimented with it, becoming an Overdead and tagged Mirta along for the trip to the ungodly realm.

Unlike Mirta, Robin was aware of the consequences of her drug consumption. As a result, Mirta accuses Robin of murdering her in the end, and she stands with Sara, turning away from Robin’s seductive tactics. The last of the Benandantis shoot him in the back. Although the end of Robin’s case is unknown, the Benandanti most likely tortured Robin to death. However, because he is also an Overdead, killing him would be more difficult than it appears on paper.

Is Ago still alive or dead? Why does Ago commit suicide?

Mirta encounters Ago, a dear friend of Robin’s, in the crypt, and after sniffing some cocaine, Ago initially believes he is hallucinating Mirta. Although Ago and Robin grew away when Robin met Mirta, Ago still has a bittersweet emotion for Mirta — a mix of desire and resentment, if you will. Ago, on the other hand, does not act as if he has seen a ghost when he encounters Mirta. When Mirta inquires as to why Ago is not terrified, Ago responds because he is surrounded by death — hers, Robin’s, and Paolo’s.

In Ago’s live presence, the allure of death is too strong. He, like Mirta and the other Overdeads, wishes to explore the other side of the entombment. As a result, Ago kisses Mirta, pleading with her to drink his blood. Mirta tries to drink from Ago’s neck but then backs out, as though a force prevents her from carrying out the murder. Ago believes that if Mirta drinks his blood after he dies, he will become a “zombie” as well. In a feverish frenzy, he seeks to test his theory, but he does not become an Overdead. We conclude that Ago is no longer alive.

What Is the Benandanti?

The Benandanti are a quasi-religious cult from the 17th century that is attempting to wipe out the Overdeads. They are similar to witch hunters, but they work like a gang of hidden state police. Luca Bertozzi ends up at Mirta’s house some time after her public death. He is the clan’s spokesperson, and this is far from his final appearance in the film. When Mirta is preoccupied draining Suzy’s blood, the Benandanti thugs reappear, this time armed with guns. Mirta escapes death, but Piero is killed in the process.

Mirta is later kidnapped from the crypt by a Benandanti agent. Luca binds her with a chain as he surprises Mirta with Robin’s appearance. Mirta walks out to check a groaning sound after having sex with Robin late at night. She witnesses the lot tormenting Sara and saves her by herself from the goons. However, the Benandanti are still out of control, and a sequel may be on the way.
