Naofumi learns about the sudden awakening of Spirit Tortoise, which causes an unfathomable loss of life every few centuries, in the highly anticipated episode 1 of ‘The Rising of the Shield Hero’ season 2. Recap of The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 2 Episode 1

After repelling a series of demonic incursions, Naofumi is given control of Raphtalia’s hometown, Lurolana. The shield hero quickly gathers companions and begins preparing for the incoming wave. Meanwhile, Rishia is working hard to gain acceptance into Itsuki’s party, but her combat prowess is still questionable, and it’s clear that she has a long way to go. The people of the village are suddenly attacked by bat familiars when Naofumi is just having a simple discussion with her. Raphtalia and Filo take matters into their own hands and defeat the adversaries in a matter of moments.

However, for some unexplained reason, the countdown to the arrival of these bizarre creatures ends shortly after they arrive. Naofumi is perplexed by the two incidents, but he recognizes that there is some relationship between them and that he needs to get to the bottom of things. However, before he could begin his research, Queen Mirellia summoned him. Later, Naofumi discovers that the queen has summoned all of the Cardinal Heroes for an urgent meeting, and she has dreadful news for them.

Mirellia says that in the Spirit Tortoise Kingdom, the mythical monster Spirit Tortoise has finally awakened. It is well known that it causes tremendous devastation to the earth every few centuries. Tortoise’s rebirth was also responsible for the monsters that assaulted the Lurolana village earlier. Unfortunately, before Queen Mirellia can elaborate further, Itsuki, Ren, and Motoyasu argue that they have other important appointments to attend and must depart immediately. She tells Naofumi after they leave that the legendary creature has already smashed several dominions in the Spirit Tortoise Kingdom, and it’s only a matter of time before it reaches Melromarc.

Realizing the urgency of the situation, Naofumi immediately springs into action. Meanwhile, Raphtalia, who has seen Rishia’s desperation to become stronger and join Itsuki’s party, suggests she become a slave of the shield hero, which will grant her some special abilities. When Naofumi learns about this, he asks Raphtalia to let Rishia make the final call. Upon listening to him, Rishia immediately agrees to become Naofumi’s slave and gains an EXP boost in the process. The party of the shield hero then heads to the Spirit Tortoise Kingdom.

Naofumi jumps into action as soon as he realizes the gravity of the issue. Meanwhile, Raphtalia, who has witnessed Rishia’s desperate desire to get stronger and join Itsuki’s party, advises that she become a slave of the shield hero, which will provide her certain special skills. When Naofumi learns of this, he requests that Raphtalia defer to Rishia’s decision. Rishia quickly decides to become Naofumi’s slave after hearing him out and receives EXP in the process. The shield hero’s team then travels to the Spirit Tortoise Kingdom.

On their trip to the Spirit Tortoise Kingdom, Naofumi and his comrades come upon refugees fleeing the region’s indiscriminate bloodshed. They learn about Itsuki, Ren, and Motoyasu, the three Cardinal heroes who died in battle, while traversing one of the vast swarms of people. Rishia immediately jumps off of the moving wagon and begins weeping for Itsuki, whom she had sorely wanted to join for quite some time.

Noticing her very sensitive state, Naofumi knows that he needs to gather precise facts about it in order to address the problem as effectively as possible. As a result, he contacts Fitoria via Filo, who informs his party that the three Cardinal heroes are still alive and that the report of their death is merely rumor. When Rishia learns about it, she finally relaxes a little, and Naofumi encourages her by openly confessing that losing Itsuki, Ren, and Motoyasu will place him in a dangerous position as well, because Fitoria has warned him that if they don’t work together, she will murder all heroes.

What Happens to Naofumi’s Party When They Arrive in the Spirit Tortoise Kingdom?

When the refugees and Naofumi’s group are assaulted by a vast horde of bat familiars they had previously seen in Lurolana village, the situation has hardly returned to normal. As if that wasn’t horrible enough, they soon come across another troop of odd monsters approaching them from the ground. Naofumi assigns Rishia the task of directing the refugees to a safer location, while he, Filo, and Raphtalia begin to fight back.

However, it quickly becomes clear that if they do not resort to drastic means, they would lose the struggle in the long term. As a result, Naofumi employs the Wrath Shield and manages to turn the tables in a matter of seconds. As the shield hero triumphs once more, he is approached by a mystery hooded woman who requests that he kill her for some unknown reason.
