Spoilers for Demon Slayer Season 2 Episode 5 are underneath.

In episode 4, after his father makes the suggestion that he should slit his own throat in order to return to the real world, Tanjirou questions whether he is making the correct decision. However, after a few moments of self-deprecation, he comes to the conclusion that it is most likely the only option to escape and save Nezuko from the situation. After slitting his throat, he is overcome by pain for a brief period of time before waking up and continuing his journey. Meanwhile, Zenitsu and Inosuke are putting up a valiant fight against the insomniac children who have been dispatched by Enmu to demolish their spiritual foundations.

Tanjirou checks on Nezuko, who appears to be in good health, and after inspecting his sleeping companions, he determines that Blood Demon Art has been employed against them. Soon after, he detects the presence of a potentially hazardous foe aboard the Mugen train and delegates the job of arousing his companions to his sister. Tanjirou is able to track down Emu, who is perched atop the locomotive, thanks to his excellent sense of smell. The demon reveals how he has been manipulating his victims to dance to his music and expresses no remorse for using humans to achieve his twisted goals through manipulation.

Tanjirou has had enough of Enmu’s heinous deeds by this point, and he begins fighting her right away. Even though the demon uses her powers to lull the protagonist to sleep, he awakens promptly and slices his neck in order to return to the real world, demonstrating tremendous willpower that even his enemy is impressed by. Tanjirou cuts Enmu’s throat after a brief scuffle, but he soon realizes that he is not dead after all. While everyone was immersed in their dream world, the demon united with the Mugen train, causing it to crash. In the fifth episode, Tanjiro will discover Enmu’s true neck and slice her throat, putting an end to her reign of terror, while his allies battle the demon that has taken up residence inside the compartments.
