Recap of ‘Ascendance of a Bookworm’ Season 3, Episode 2
Myne, who has worked tirelessly to get her books into the market and make them available to everyone, has now published scripture image texts that are accessible to the general public. However, Benno has recently become concerned about her safety and the protection of her family. To secure her protection, he asks her to spend some time in the Cathedral, where she will be protected.
Myne is naturally depressed, and she does not want to leave her family. But she realizes that staying with them will only endanger their lives. As a result, she does not dispute Benno’s decision and promptly leaves her home. Her time at the Cathedral is severely limited, and she is not even permitted to enter the library. Furthermore, Myne has few things to keep her attention, and her caregivers are continuously observing her every action. She teaches Delia math to pass the time and proves to be a remarkably competent instructor by assisting her students in easily grasping touch concepts.
Myne volunteers to help retainers learn everything they need to know, realizing that she can teach others at the Cathedral to read and write, which will eventually expand the amount of books. The attendants, though, graciously decline the offer. Their hesitancy makes Myne unhappy, but when Lutz pays her a visit, she forgets about her troubles for a few hours. Her old friend informs her that he would be attending a papyrus workshop in a nearby city in the spring.
His enthusiasm reminds Myne of a conversation she once had with Lutz, in which he stated that traveling to different cities had always been his goal. She is overjoyed that he is following his heart and realizing his aspirations. In the weeks that follow, Myne experiences homesickness and lovingly recalls her time with her family. Benno is called to the Cathedral under the guise of presenting Myne’s ceremonial gown. Karstedt, Ferdinand, Myne, and Benno hold a secret rendezvous once he arrives. Ferdinand starts the conversation by asking if Wolf is the leader of the Ink Guild.
Benno confirms his suspicion, and Ferdinand goes on to say that they have tirelessly probed Myne and have even made Lutz one of their major targets since he made a contract with him. However, Myne emphasizes that he was not present when the contract was signed, which was a prudent decision because it provided her with some privacy at the moment. Wolf can utilize contract magic to his advantage and gain additional information about Myne in the process because it cannot be undone without the approval of all parties involved.
‘The Ascension of a Bookworm’ Season 3, Episode 2 Ending: What was Ferinand’s Adoption Plan? Why is Myne opposed to it?
Before delving into Ferdinand’s adoption plan and the reasons behind it, it’s necessary to understand Wolf’s motivations for examining Myne and devoting so much time and attention to it. It may be claimed that he wants to keep her, kidnap her, and keep her in prison in order to extract knowledge from him for monetary advantage, as her brilliant ideas have made her partners pretty wealthy in recent times. However, because to Myne’s bad health, this could turn out to be a tremendous failure. As a result, the most likely scenario is that he will either sell her or compel her to sign a subordination contract.
Furthermore, her immense mana can be used for evil reasons, thus Ferdinand prioritizes her safety. Originally, he intended to marry her to a noble in the future, but because he couldn’t afford to wait too long, Ferdinand proposes that she be adopted by a nobility. If she agrees, she will receive much-needed protection, and no one can be a greater adoptive father than Karstedt.
While the concept appears to be reasonable, Myne refuses to accept it and becomes so enraged that her mana must be taken to calm her down. She has always been adamant about avoiding being separated from her family, so leaving them for a period of time to live in the Cathedral was already difficult for her. As a result, expecting her to be adopted by aristocrats was out of the question. Ferdinand does not question her again and lets her follow her heart, but only on the condition that she joins the Royal Academy when she reaches ten.
