The fifth episode of ‘Love, Death & Robots,’ titled ‘Kill Team Kill,’ erupts with violence, guts, and snappy one-liners. A crew of highly trained US special forces are up against a vicious creature that turns out to be a botched CIA experiment. The battle-hardened troops have never faced a foe as fearsome as the “honey badger,” but that doesn’t stop them from laughing about it. The ending is appropriately quirky and macabre, so let’s revisit ‘Love, Death & Robots’ season 3 episode 5. SPOILERS FOLLOW.

The episode begins in a foreboding forest with a US special forces team on high alert for danger. They are assaulted very immediately by a bear with a metallic face, which tears into the group. Bullets, to their surprise, do not appear to harm the voracious beast. Despite this, the guys continue to refer to their fearsome opponent as a “honey badger.”

When it appears that the troops are about to succumb, a piercing sound confuses the creature, and it vanishes into the foliage. Sergeant Morris is the guy responsible for chasing the thing away, and he later claims to be a member of a CIA task group. He discloses that the “honey badger” is a genetically engineered grizzly bear from a botched CIA project.

Morris’ assertions are dismissed by the special forces squad until he leads them to a hidden vault with heavy armament. He also describes the dangers of the “killing machine.” The soldiers, armed to the teeth, are waiting for the lethal beast. When the cyborg grizzly finally bursts into the trap, it dispatches two of the troops quickly while the rest bombard it with heavy weapons.

Love, Death, and Robots Season 3 Episode 5 What Befalls the Special Forces Team? Do they all perish?

After a few false successes and tons of blood and guts, the massive cybernetic grizzly bear is eventually defeated. Its battered metal body sits motionless as the last two troops breathe a sigh of relief and assess the devastation around them. They don’t have much time to rejoice because one of the creature’s eyeballs pops out of its skull and a timer starts counting down. The episode concludes with a tremendous explosion.

As a result, it looks like the final two remaining members of the special forces squad are slain. The topic of the episode revolves around the cybernetic creature being practically indestructible. Therefore, even though the troops ostensibly succeed in killing it, it is the creature that has the last laugh.

In keeping with the episode’s ironic humorous tone, it looks that the “good guys” are all dead. They believe they have slain the beast several times, only to have it reawaken and attack again, killing more of their members. Surprisingly, because the robotic grizzly bear is a CIA development, the soldiers are being slaughtered by a creature supposed to aid them.

Because the CIA appears to have ingested its experiment with every type of weapon technology accessible, the enhanced grizzly bear has a few tricks under its sleeve even after being vanquished. The eye, which contains a powerful explosion, is most likely designed to kill whoever succeeds to take down the grizzly, and in this case, the victims are US special forces men.

What exactly is a Honey Badger? Is it gone?

Despite the fact that their foe is a lethal killing machine, the battle-hardened soldiers continue to refer to it as a “honey badger,” much to Sergeant Morris’ chagrin. Morris informs to the special forces men that the beast is a cyborg grizzly bear constructed of reinforced steel and with a bulletproof layer under its skin in order to let them know how dangerous their foe is. The nearly indestructible creature was designed to aid the CIA but turned rogue the night before the special forces soldiers confronted it.

The episode’s ironic joke is that the troops, including Morris, are slain by a creature designed to aid them. The botched experiment cybernetic grizzly is finally destroyed, but it appears that it kills the whole team responsible for it. Morris hints at this when he says the creature tore apart the rest of his squad when they lost control of it.
