Bheeshma Parvam is an 2022 Indian Malayalam-language crime drama film produced and directed by Amal Neerad, starring Mammootty with an ensemble supporting cast. Sushin Shyam composed the film’s songs and background score. The movie is written by Amal Neerad and Devadath Shaji with P. T Ravi Shankar credited as Additional Screenwriter. Manu Jose aka RJ Murukan has penned the additional dialogues.

Many members of the Bheeshma Parvam team revealed before the film’s release that it is a family drama with aspects from Mahabharatha, The Godfather, and more for the audience to enjoy. What you get in the theatres is an interesting plot with components drawn from all of them, well-crafted to cater to the new age crowd, and spiced up with some spicy music.

Micheal’s (Mammootty) household is filled with individuals of various personalities, ranging from those who fear him to those who love him for what he has done for the family. And, just as he has many of foes inside his house, his fearsome background and influence have earned him plenty of foes outside as well. At one point, a group of them joins forces to bring him down and live their lives as they wish. How successful is their plan?

From the start, the film is careful to keep the pace balanced and fascinating, even while it naturally develops the individuals, their origins, their place in the family tree, and more. Mammootty entertains as the indomitable hero with his towering presence, body language, punch dialogues, stunts, and more, providing ample moments for viewers seeking amusement to be riveted. Shine Tom Chacko, Sudev Nair, and Soubin are also excellent in their respective roles. The story’s approach has ensured that the female characters are depicted appropriately, and a special attention to being politically correct is clear and admirable. Anend C Chandran’s lens captured the sights with zeal, and the stunt choreography was particularly impressive for a genre film.

Sushin Shyam’s music merits special note for how it lifts the atmosphere of the proceedings, even if the conversations are drowned out at times by its thundering intensity. Watching Nedumudi Venu and KPAC Lalitha on TV, perhaps playing characters we haven’t seen them play in a long time, might bring back memories for many.
