The anime is about a girl named Nanami who gains the rank of a Kami (Shinto Goddess). Nanami must now reconcile her duties as a human and a goddess in the magical world. She survives, but her soul departs from her body. She insists that Yato aid her in returning to her human body, but in order to do so, Yato needs locate a new assistant. Yato and Hiyori embark on an adventure to find a new assistant for this ‘Stray God’ so that they can both have some good in their life once more.

Ririchiyo Shirakiin, a spoilt rich and extraordinarily petite 15-year-old girl, despises the fact that she is so reliant on her safe royal surroundings.
